Clozapine can cause severe neutropenia. Neutropenia is a blood disorder that occurs when a certain type of white blood cells called neutrophils are not made, or not enough of them are made. This makes it harder for your body to fight infections which could lead to serious infections and death.

Clozapine treatment has caused severe neutropenia, defined as an absolute neutrophil count (ANC) less than 500/μL. Severe neutropenia can lead to serious infection and death.
